Flanked by riparian forest and the gently rolling hills of Inverness-shire, the combined Dochfour and Laggan beats offer renowned salmon and sea trout fishing on the iconic river Ness.
Quality salmon & sea trout fishing on the world famous river Ness, Scotland.
Dochfour & Laggan beats
Located on the upper end of the River Ness, four miles west of Inverness. The river Ness in general is famed for its long season and clear waters. With the first catches starting as early as February and continuing right through until October. The combined beats can accommodate up to six rods, with the use of a full-time ghillie to guide you from February - October and an additional ghillie from May - October.
Fishing
There are 6 named pools on each of our two beats. Loch Ness acts as a giant water filter, as a result the river Ness never colours up in a flood and it's rare that you can't fish because the water is too high. During a dry summer we are fortunate to still be able to fish in low water. It is a versatile stretch of water which provides fishing in most conditions.
Kit choice is down to personal preference, but usually 14 & 15ft double-hand rods are optimum on these beats. Full floating lines are fished most often during the summer months, during the spring and autumn it would be advisable to fish a higher density line or sink tips.
Spinning is allowed only at the ghillie's discretion on each day. Wading is pleasantly easy at Dochfour and Laggan although chest waders are the best option, even in low water. Comfortable Coulam boats are used to fish some of the wider pools.
Progressive management
The Dochfour and Laggan beats are owned by Wildland Limited, Scotland’s largest conservation landowner. Wildland’s mission is to help combat the climate crisis through natural solutions and proactive conservation. When you fish at Dochfour and Laggan, you are directly contributing to our positive work for the planet. Because of this, we practice a strict ‘catch and release’ policy across our fishings.
Wildland is planning a significant investment in the beat over the coming years which will see its facilities upgraded to further enhance the already formidable fishing on the Ness.
